My demonstrations are filled with tricks and
techniques, and include informative handouts on the subject, plus a
source list. I like
to put variety into my presentations, so even if someone has seen me
before they will see something new. Every year I try to add a new
presentation subject to my list. To give the symposium or club
meeting attendees 110%, I go out of my way to make myself accessible
to everyone before during and after the event for advice, problem
solving, or just "shooting the breeze". An all-day demonstration
usually consists of 3 - 4 individual sessions with a break in
between. The demonstration can be a preview or review of the
projects taught in the hands-on sessions.
Hands-on classes are a perfect companion to a
club demo. My teaching philosophy: “If Woodturners are athletes, then the class is a training camp, and I am the coach!” Whether you are wanting to learn cutting technique, process steps, or how to train your eye for design, you will be coached in your area of interest as we work on a project. Class projects will include boxes, hollow vessels, and, of course, finials. At any skill level, this is a tremendous opportunity to expand your woodturning horizons by working with a professional.
I can design a class to run from 1 to 5 days, and for a
variety of skill levels. The best class size is 6 students or fewer,
but I will accept up to 8. Everyone is sure to have a good time and
improve their turning skills!
